This past Monday, Doug Dodson heard the words that no race car driver ever wants to hear: “We are putting another driver in the car.” The announcement was made Wednesday that Brent Marks will be the new driver of the Dietz Motorsports number 14 sprint car. Doug would like to wish the best of luck to this new partnership and thank Scott and Chris Dietz for all they have done for him over the past four years.
For Doug, this has been a huge shock to his lifestyle. Since beginning his sprint car driving career in 2006, he has focused a great deal of his efforts on racing. If he wasn't at the track racing or in the shop performing maintenance, he was fabricating parts, doing the graphics for the car, or doing PR work. The motivation driving all of this was being able to strap into an incredibly powerful, lightweight race car every week and compete against some of the best drivers in the world.
Anyone who knows Doug is well aware that he is not one to give up. Racing is a sport that teaches you to overcome and learn from one failure after another on your road to success. Doug still has his heart set on winning races, and would love the opportunity to return to the drivers seat. In the meantime, he will remain involved with sprint car racing by working on cars and fabricating parts.
